So you’ve done your research and you’ve decided to follow the Michael Mosley 5:2 Diet, or the Fast Diet as his book is called. (If you haven’t done your research, you may want to check out these videos on the Michael Mosley 5:2 diet experiment – fascinating stuff).
What is The Fast Diet? Simply put, Michael Mosley recently conducted a scientific experiment for health and longevity and found that the best results came from eating as per usual for 5 days, and then fasting for two. By fasting, he means a very restricted diet of 500 calories for women, and 600 for men.
What does a 500 calorie day look like?
Well, if we have a look at some foods and their calories, you may get a better idea:
- A raw apple with it’s skin on is 65 calories.
- A cup of tea with milk and two tsp sugar is 70 calories.
- 1 Slice of wholewheat bread is 75 calories.
- 2 Tbs Woolworths honey mustard salad dressing is 82 calories.
- A quarter cup feta is 90 calories.
- 1 cup of mash with butter and milk is 237 calories.
So your day could look something like this on the “fast” days:
Breakfast: 1 apple (65 calories)
Lunch: 1 plate of greek salad with feta and honey mustard dressing (200 calories)
Snack: 1 orange (80 calories)
Supper: 1 cup steamed butternut (80 calories), broccoli (25 calories), green beans (22 calories)
The total for the day is 472 calories – not bad for a mere two days restriction a week!
And what do you get for it? Much better health and weight loss. As far as the Get Thin for Good program is concerned, this is a great way to lose weight without feeling deprived, because you could eat normally for 5 days, and in-between, you could fast one day here and there.
This plan also teaches you self-discipline and for overeaters and people who are addicted to food, this is one of the vital aspects of permanent weight loss. If you feel you could not sustain this particular lifestyle, but wish to lose weight, you may find the Get Thin for Good online weight loss program beneficial.
